Art has always been a powerful way for communities to express their values, dreams, and collective identity. But when the local youth are given the opportunity to shape that expression themselves, something truly special happens. This was the experience at Wyndham Youth Resource Centre in Hoppers Crossing, where a group of young participants worked hand-in-hand with renowned Melbourne artist Juzpop to design and paint a mural that not only transformed the space but also gave the youth a platform to have their voices heard.

Part 1: Giving Voice to the Youth
The project began with a mural on the external wall of the Wyndham Youth Resource Centre, designed to capture the spirit of the centre and the diverse group of young people who use it. Juzpop presented several design options inspired by the centre’s mission, and the youth who frequent the space were invited to provide feedback on which design resonated most with them. Their input helped shape the final concept 'Moments of bloom', ensuring the mural was a reflection of their community.
Part 2: A Hands-On Art Mentorship
The second part of the project involved three youth participants in an art mentorship program, where they all collaborated to design and paint an internal mural for the centre’s main communal area. Through several workshops, the group brainstormed ideas and developed a unified concept, then worked together to paint the mural, each participant adding their personal touch to the piece.
